Posted on September 2, 2008 by Josh C.
What's become one of the longest drawn out legal battles in MMA history, between Randy Couture and the Ultimate Fighting Championship, appears to finally be at a close. The UFC has planned a media conference call today to announce the return of UFC Heavyweight Champion Couture to the organization.
According to a report by Yahoo Sports, the popular champion has reached an agreement for a new fight contract with the UFC and could be back in the octagon as soon as UFC 91 in Portland. Currently the rumored opponent is Brock Lesnar.
"After 11 months of fighting in the courts it looks like the UFC and Randy Couture have buried the hatchet. The promotion is holding a press conference on Tuesday at Noon PT to announce a new deal with the heavyweight champion. Couture is expected to face Brock Lesnar at UFC 91 in Portland in what could be the biggest pay-per-view show in the UFC's history. There is also talk now that with a win over Lesnar, Couture could face Fedor Emelianenko in 2009, under the UFC banner."
